### Summary:

M-ICR005 – Reduction of GHG emissions by diverting unsold goods and organic waste from disposal applies to project activities that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by diverting eligible unsold goods and organic waste from final disposal pathways, including solid waste disposal sites and incineration.

The methodology covers two main rescue pathways: the commercialization or donation of usable unsold goods through initiatives such as e-commerce platforms, off-price retailers, food banks or similar channels; and the diversion of eligible organic waste for animal feeding. In the baseline scenario, these goods or waste streams would otherwise be disposed of in a solid waste disposal site or incinerated.

Emission reductions are quantified by comparing baseline emissions from disposal or incineration with project emissions and applicable leakage. The methodology includes procedures for determining eligible waste fractions, baseline disposal pathways, project emissions from storage, processing and transport, and leakage from returned goods, later disposal or anaerobic storage. Monitoring relies on project-specific tracking systems, inventory records, logistics data, waste manifests, audits and surveys to ensure traceability and prevent double counting.

M-ICR005 was previously made available for public consultation in October–November 2023. Following that consultation and further review under the ICR methodology approval process, the methodology developer submitted an updated version. ICR is therefore initiating a new public consultation to allow stakeholders to review and comment on the revised methodology.
