# Approved Validation and Verification bodies (VVBs)

### Overview

Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) are independent third-party organizations responsible for assessing climate projects and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission mitigation outcomes under the International Carbon Registry (ICR) program.

VVBs conduct **validation and verification activities** in accordance with applicable ICR requirements and relevant ISO standards. Their role is critical to ensuring the credibility, transparency, and environmental integrity of climate projects registered under the ICR program.

Within the ICR program, VVBs assess project documentation, monitoring reports, and GHG statements and provide independent validation and verification reports that support project registration and the issuance of carbon credits.

Validation and verification activities are conducted according to internationally recognized standards, including **ISO 14064-3**, which define requirements for validation, and verification of GHG emission reductions and removals in addition to **ICR validation and verification specifications**.

#### Eligibility

An **Approved VVB** under the ICR program is a validation and verification body that:

* Is accredited for validation and verification of GHG statements under relevant accreditation standards.
* Holds accreditation under **ISO 17029/14065** by an accreditation body that is a member of the **International Accreditation Forum (IAF)**.
* Is accredited under an **ICR approved GHG program** or equivalent scheme.
* Has signed a formal **VVB Agreement with the International Carbon Registry**.

An approved VVB is therefore a **competent, accredited, and contracted third-party organization authorized by ICR to perform validation and verification services**.
