A concept note is a preliminary document that outlines the core idea of a proposed biodiversity project or methodology. It serves as the initial step in developing a project aimed at generating measurable biodiversity gains. Typically, the concept note provides an overview of the project, including the conservation or restoration activities, the methods to be used, and the expected biodiversity outcomes. It also highlights potential environmental, social, and economic impacts, as well as any risks or challenges that may arise.
The concept note is reviewed to assess the feasibility and potential of the project. Based on the feedback received, the project proponent can decide whether to proceed with the formal registration of the project, based on a Biodiversity Action Plan or a Comprehensive Biodiversity Action Plan, which will include specific methodologies and monitoring processes for implementing and tracking biodiversity gains.
